Project Spotlight:

Unique Tega Cay Home on Wooded Lot

This outdoor lighting project was one for the books! We had so much fun working with the clients to design the perfect lighting plan for their unique home and property. From the beautiful, rock accent wall in front to the huge, wooded backyard and amazing treehouse, we were able to highlight the best features of the home and make the backyard a perfect place for adults to relax and kids to play from day to night!

Outdoor Lighting Objectives

During the initial design consultation, the clients’ lighting objectives were to highlight the front of their house and enjoy the backyard more at night. The clients requested that the lighting be kid and pet friendly. They also wanted to avoid ground lights in the backyard due to the large number of leaves in the fall.

Design Plan

The following is a visualization of the finalized lighting design. We ended up installing a total of 24 low voltage outdoor lights throughout the property.

Enhancing Curb Appeal

In the front, we used a combination of uplights, well-lights, and wall washes to highlight the architectural features of this unique home and increase curb appeal at night.

Front of the house with architectural uplighting.

The light from the well lights on either side of the door as well as the uplights on the posts add the perfect amount of drama and create a lovely warm glow even with the bright, competing streetlight. In addition, the soft wall-wash really highlights the texture of the rock accent wall.

Outdoor Living

In the backyard, because the clients didn’t want ground lights, we went with 11 strategically placed moonlights mounted 20-30ft in the trees. (Moonlights are cool colored downlights that provide a natural, moonlit glow.)

And checkout that treehouse! We love how the warm light from the treehouse contrasts with the cool glow from the trees behind. Not only does the lighting create visual interest and depth, but with the addition of lights, this treehouse is now usable at night. Win, win!

For those of you who are wondering how we installed all of these beautiful lights, here is a little look into the installation process. We love our Limelight installation crew! They truly make these projects come to life.

There are so many reasons to install outdoor lighting, but here you can really see how lighting facilitates safe navigation throughout the property – even without traditional path lights. Also, notice how the shadowing from the moonlights create interesting, natural patterns on the ground below.

Client Review

“My husband and I have always wanted to do something like this and when we met Jeff with Limelight - we were all in. He was professional, organized and attentive from our initial consult to installation and follow-up. To add, the results were even better than we even imagined. Jeff and his entire crew were communicative, courteous and flexible - all qualities that are difficult to find. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend Limelight to anyone (no matter your budget, big or small). I promise you, the results speak for themselves - worth every penny! Check out these pictures… you literally couldn’t see anything in our backyard before - photos were black. Now it looks amazing, it’s safe and kids get to play at night when we entertain. They love it, and so do we!”
