Project Spotlight:

Modern Home in Charlotte, NC

This was a quick and easy outdoor lighting project that turned out beautifully! From the simple, modern architecture of the home to the vine covered fence and beautiful, mature trees, we were able to highlight the best features of this home and property.

Outdoor Lighting Objectives

During the initial design consultation, the clients’ lighting objectives were to highlight the front of their home, light the fence, and create focal points with the trees throughout the property. The homeowners had a clear vision for how they wanted the lighting to look so we offered a nighttime demonstration to make sure we could match our design to their vision. We ended up installing a total of 14 low voltage outdoor lights throughout the property.

Enhancing Curb Appeal

In the front, we used a combination of uplights and wall washes to highlight the architectural features of this home and increase curb appeal at night. At the nighttime demonstration, we were able to test different Kelvin temperature lights on the home. Because of the lighter colored brick, we chose to use 3000K fixtures rather than 2700K to create a brighter, more modern look to match the style of the house.

Notice how the light on the right side of the front entrance gives a nice glow to the walkway leading up to the house. We also love the shadowing effect!

Creating Visual Interest and Depth with Light

We chose five trees throughout the property to light. We especially love the light on the large tree in the backyard that creates visual depth beyond the home and driveway. While the vining plants look beautiful as is, imagine when they take over the fence! What a sight that will be at night!

Before & After

So, does outdoor lighting make a difference? These before and after pictures perfectly illustrate how lighting can transform a beautiful home into a work of art at night.

Future Considerations

While the homeowners decided against navigational lighting for the time being, they are considering adding these beautiful, ultra-modern lights along the front path. This is the Enclave Path Light from Dauer Manufacturing and comes in four finishes: bronze, black, white, and silver. We would choose the black finish so that these lights would blend flawlessly with the black accents on the home.
