Project Spotlight:

Basic Architectural Lighting

While landscape lighting can be somewhat of an afterthought for many homeowners, a well-designed outdoor lighting system was a must have for the homeowners of this newly built home in Fort Mill, SC. With relatively few lights, we were able to highlight the best features of this home and make it stand out among the other homes in the neighborhood.

Lighting Objectives

This project was very straight forward. The clients had one main lighting objective – to illuminate the front of their home and create curb appeal at night. The only obstacle that we ran into with this project was the bright, competing streetlight in very close proximity to the house.

We ended up installing a total of nine 2700k low voltage outdoor lights to give this home a beautiful glow. Notice the four small uplights strategically placed on the second level to ensure the lighting didn’t stop at the first roofline. We also installed two lights on the Crepe Myrtle in the front landscaping bed which will highlight its beauty as it grows into maturity.

Before and After

After

Here you can really see the impact the streetlight has on the home before the lighting was installed. The warmer, 2700K architectural landscape lighting really diffuses that bright light and allows the home to shine.

Before

After

With this final set of before and after pictures, we want to show you how the existing exterior porch lights and garage lights compare to the new outdoor lighting system. Notice how the professionally installed outdoor lights bathe the entire home in soft light accentuating the different architectural features of the home. Not only is it beautiful, but now the homeowners no longer have to worry about turning on the porch lights every night. We installed low voltage fixtures that automatically turn on/off and can be controlled by an application on the homeowner’s cell phone.
